One of Indonesian carrier Sriwijaya Air's Boeing 737-300s appears to have suffered substantial damage in an overrun at Yogyakarta airport yesterday.
The aircraft, arriving from Surabaya to where it had reportedly diverted for bad weather, approached the airport from the west, according to Indonesia's government news agency, indicating an attempt to land on Runway 09.
It seemed to be unable to decelerate and drifted to the left of the runway, coming to a halt on a grassy bank at about 17:15, it added.
Five of those on board - a total of 129 passengers and four crew - were injured in the accident. While the agency identifies the aircraft as carrying registration PK-CKN, this aircraft is a 737-400, and the airframe involved appears to be PK-CKM.
Images from the scene show the aircraft apparently resting on its fuselage underside. Investigators have opened an inquiry into the event.
