AgustaWestland has sold two GrandNew light twin helicopters to the police force in Ordos, which is located in the Chinese autonomous region of Inner Mongolia.

The Public Security Bureau of Ordos will use the two helicopters for fire fighting, search and rescue, observation, and "civil protection" duties, said AgustaWestland.

"The GrandNew was selected, following a tender process and a comprehensive evaluation of the available helicopters," said AgustaWestland.

The type was chosen because of its ability to operate in the difficult conditions encountered in Inner Mongolia, such as strong winds, poor visibility, and high temperatures in the summer.

The company said the GrandNew is the first type certified light twin (CS/JAR/FAR 27) to enter service with a new electronic flight instrument system (EFIS) featuring Synthetic Vision, and the first with the latest advanced global positioning system-based navigation requirements for all weather operations.
