Would-be German regional aircraft manufacturer Fairchild Dornier AeroIndustries has confirmed it is filing for insolvency after failing to secure guarantees of shareholder funding (Flight International, 22-28 June).

The company, established by Chinese investment firm D'Long, attempted to restart the dormant Fairchild Dornier 728 regional jet programme following the insolvency of its former manufacturer in 2002.

Fairchild Dornier AeroIndustries had resumed testing of the type, but the company says: "Filing for opening of the insolvency procedure was necessary because the continued financing by the shareholders of [the company] was no longer guaranteed."
