Aviation Glass & Technology has joined forces with window shade system specialist Aerospace Technologies Group to develop a new glass solution offering crystal clear optic capabilities and superior damage resistance in aviation interiors.
"It's the perfect platform to engage with vital stakeholders and to showcase our unique aviation glass, particularly to premium market segments where customer experience is key," says Aviation Glass & Technology chief executive Frans van Hapert.
The partners says the 1.7mm thick aviation glass is 20-25% lighter than typical 3mm polycarbonate materials used in aircraft window shade inboard lenses.
"It means a lot of savings," say van Hapert, adding greater resistance to breakage and scratch damage also adds to the economics equation. "Maintenance costs is a very important issue at the moment.
Citing strong customer interest for "real glass" solutions, he is confident of strong commercial interest in the new technology - a mirror glass version of which will follow in the second quarter. "We at the beginning of an array of opportunities," says van Hapert.
