Iran Air is gearing up to add new destinations to its international network and to boost frequencies on many overseas services.

Local press reports say the Iranian flag carrier's chairman and managing director Davood Keshavarzian has suggested that it plans to fly to Canada and Iraq, with Far Eastern routes earmarked for frequency increases. Destinations include Almaty in Kazakhstan, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Tokyo.

The airline last year acquired six secondhand Airbus A310-200s from THY Turkish Airlines and one ex-Emirates A310-300. Most of its aircraft are Boeing 707s, 727s, 737s and 747s, delivered before the 1979 Islamic revolution. It also operates four Airbus A300B4s and two A300-600Rs that were delivered in the early 1980s and 1990s, respectively, and five Fokker 100s.
