THE IRANIAN AIR FORCE has completed the installation of an airborne-refueling system for its Mikoyan MiG-29 Fulcrum fighter aircraft. Pictured is a recent test of a MiG-29UB refueling from an Iranian air force Boeing 707 tanker. The probe on the MiG may be fixed, rather than being retractable into the fuselage. The tanker appears to be fitted with two probe-and-drogue flight-refueling pods, and also seems to have a centre-line boom. Iran has also converted at least one of its Boeing 747s with a centre-line boom. Iran is believed to have around 40 MiG-29s, including some which it acquired after Iraqi pilots landed their aircraft in Iran during the Gulf War to avoid Allied air strikes.
