The US Department of Defense says that Iran test-fired a Chinese-made C-802 (YJ-2) sea-launched cruise missile in the northern Arabian Sea on 6 January. The test represents "a new threat dimension", says Vice Adm Scott Redd, commander of the US Navy's 5th Fleet. Redd says that Iranian navy Hudong patrol boats and a "significant number" of other warships have been modified to fire the C-802 missile, which has a range of about 95km (50nm).
