Iran has successfully tested its Shihab-3 ballistic missile. The prototype was launched on 22 July to a range of 800km (500 miles). The Shihab-3 is based on the technologies of the North Korean No-Dong missile. It is designed to have a 1,300km range and to carry a 1,000kg (2,200lb) warhead. Russia has also helped in its development. Industry sources say the Iranians are also working on a longer-range missile, the Shihab-4, which an Israeli source says is based on the Russian SS-4 missile.
