Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries (IHI) manufactures the two-shaft F3-30 turbofan for the Japan Air Self-Defence Force's Kawasaki T-4 trainer. The first production engine was delivered in 1987.

IHI is expected to be responsible for about 40% of the work on the General Electric F110-129 engine which powers the Mitsubishi F-2A/B support fighter, under an agreement over work-share between the US and Japanese Governments. IHI would perform final assembly and testing of the engines. IHI has also signed up as a partner on General Electric's CF34-8C turbofan programme for the Bombardier CRJ-X regional jet
