Bombardier will assist Hawaii’s Island Air in remarketing the carrier’s leased Dash 8 Q400 as well as the two additional Q400s it had planned to add to its fleet, following the operator’s decision to shelve expansion with the 74-seat turboprop. The airline’s Q400 will be removed from its fleet this month and the carrier will delay delivery of the other two Q400s, says chief executive Rob Mauracher. He says pressure from Mesa Air Group’s inter-island start-up Go affected the decision, citing “the added capacity of Go in the market, high fuel prices and ongoing fare wars”. The new entrant is planning to codeshare with Hawaii’s Mokulele Airlines on certain routes served by Island Air.
