The Israeli air force could equip its Sikorsky CH-53 assault and UH-60 Black Hawk utility helicopters with EADS's Hellas laser radar obstacle warning system under ongoing system upgrades to the types.

A laser radar system is required as part of the Yasur 2025 upgrade to Israel's CH-53s, along with a new mission computer and auto-hover system. An air force maintenance unit is conducting the work, which will extend operations until 2025.

Earlier reports had suggested the CH-53s would receive El-Op's laser obstacle ranging and display system to warn of low-level threats such as wires.

The Black Hawks will also receive the new equipment.
