ISRAEL HAS FAILED an aviation-safety audit by US Federal Aviation Administration inspectors. The US agency is working with Israel to correct deficiencies.

Israel's failure to meet International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) aviation-safety standards has earned it a conditional rating from the FAA - limiting operations to the USA until improvements are undertaken.

The audit, performed in June, showed that Israel has failed to develop and implement "...adequate civil-aviation surveillance, inspector guidance and training programmes and lacks the organisational structure, technical expertise and resources necessary to license and oversee civil aviation in accordance with ICAO standards".
