Israeli fighter squadrons have conducted their largest ever air refuelling exercise in co-operation with an allied air force.
An official announcement about the complex manoeuvres came only days after a Greek television report claimed that the Israeli and Greek air forces had participated in a joint exercise. This involved Israeli Boeing F-15 and Lockheed Martin F-16 squadrons, tanker aircraft and naval vessels.
The Israeli air force currently uses a fleet of upgraded Boeing 707 tankers, which were converted by Israel Aerospace Industries. The US government has offered to provide the country with three second-hand KC-135Es for the air-to-air refuelling mission, but the service says it will only consider a deal involving R-model examples.
