The Israeli Industry Centre for Research and Development, Matimop, has joined Europe's Galileo civil satellite navigation programme, sealing a co-operation agreement signed last year between Israel and the European Union. China last year became the first non-European Union participant in the €3.5 billion ($4.4 billion) Galileo project through state-owned company Remote Sensing Centre of China. Other countries that have expressed an interest in joining are India, Argentina, Brazil, Ukraine and Russia.
