Rafael will become a major player in the Israeli space industry if plans to merge the heavy propulsion division of Israel Military Industries (IMI) into the company are implemented.
As part of a plan to restructure and privatise IMI, the Israeli government wants to merge the Givon heavy propulsion division of IMI into the missile division of Rafael. Givon manufactures boosters for the Shavit satellite launcher and the motor of the Arrow anti-tactical ballistic missile system.
Rafael decided to go into the space market in the mid-1990s. The company is involved in the development of micro satellites and advanced satellite thrusters.
