Israeli air force pilots and technical experts will soon meet US Marine Corps staff to hear their opinion about the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey tiltrotor that is now being used in Afghanistan.
The planned meeting represents a further step in Israel's renewed evaluation of the V-22, as reported by Flightglobal in March. This is intended to determine whether the tiltrotor should be included in the new multi-year plan of the Israeli defence forces.

Israel's interest in the V-22 stems from the type's ability to rapidly deploy Special Forces personnel, and to meet other urgent mission requirements, such as performing medical evacuation missions, according to Israeli sources.
Air force interest in the high-speed rotorcraft dates to 2007.
