Israeli minister of transport Meir Shitrit is trying to settle a dispute with foreign airlines over sixth-freedom rights without the intervention of the country's supreme court. The ministry has demanded that Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines and Alitalia limit their capacity on the Tel Aviv route, claiming that most of the passengers of these airlines are flown to destinations beyond Europe, and that this creates unfair competition for Israeli flag carrier El Al. The three foreign airlines have appealed to the Israeli supreme court, which is due to hear the case in October.
