Israeli avionics firm BVR has developed an advanced training avionics suite system (ATAS) that will allow low cost basic trainers to emulate the characteristics of more advanced combat aircraft during the training of fighter pilots.

The ATAS is based on a cockpit upgrade with the installation of multifunction displays and hands on throttle and stick controls, which can be installed in any type of jet trainer or turboprop, claims project manager Shlomo Kass.

The system simulates different avionics systems, including radar, radar warning, defensive aids, weapon and electronic warfare systems, and can be programmed to simulate air-to-air and air-to-surface scenarios. The system has been developed with the help of technologies developed for the company's Ehud rangeless debriefing system.
