The newest model of the Israel Defense Forces' Elbit Systems Skylark 1 LE unmanned air system is expected to enter operational use in the coming months, with the Block 10 version currently in its final testing stages.
Developed jointly by Elbit and Israel's Technology and Logistics Branch and Ground Forces Weapons Department, the second-generation Skylark is designed for use by artillery units.
Features of the enhanced Skylark include upgraded electro-optical/infrared cameras, with its communications system to also soon be connected with the ground forces' overall command and control system.
Elbit says the Skylark 1 LE has a take-off weight of 7kg (15.4lb), and a flight endurance of around 3h.

Israel's ground forces plan to equip each battalion with a Skylark 1 LE squad to provide support for troops in the field. The Skylark unit's responsibilities are expected to broaden, to coincide with a significant expansion planned for the use of UAS by ground forces.
