Israeli design company Olive Engineering has unveiled the Elcopter, a unique modified helicopter with a detachable secured cabin that is designed to rescue people from "hard to get at places" such as a high-rise building.

While the cabin is an integral part of the helicopter, it can be released during a rescue mission and lowered by a cable system to the rescue point. When the people are safely inside, the cabin is winched up to become a conformal part of the helicopter's fuselage.

Nehemiah Cohen, president of Olive Engineering, says the cabin is equipped with sensors and thrusters that allow its precision up and down movements. The Elcopter is targeted at the medical evacuation, airborne law enforcement and search and rescue markets and is currently under evaluation by the Israeli ministry of defence.
