Two Italian air force Lockheed Martin F-16ADF aircraft crashed off the Sardinian coast while taking part in the Spring Flag ‘06 exercise, reportedly following a mid-air collision. Both pilots ejected and were rescued by helicopter. The fighters, from the 37th Wing based in Trapani, Sicily, were returning to a Sardinian air base after a night training mission.
