Italian army aviation (AVES) has changed its name to the Air Cavalry. The move comes as the Italian army more closely integrates its ground and aviation elements. New tactics and doctrine are being developed and tested, including trials of combined ground and Air Cavalry units in Kosovo. The headquarters at Viterbo becomes Air Cavalry Command, while the co-located training and doctrine organisation becomes the Air Cavalry Center. Operational and support units become Air Cavalry Regiments, each of which comprise squadrons.
