The Italian air force logged over 400 flight hours with its General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Predator unmanned air vehicles during 63 operational sorties between late January and 5 July, the service says. Deployed to Iraq in mid-January, Italy’s three-strong Predator force logged its first operational sortie from Tallil airbase on 28 January, says Brig Gen Roberto Corsini, Italian air staff representative in Iraq.
Corsini says Italian Predator operations have identified insurgent hide-outs, weapons caches and improvised explosive devices.
