A Corporate Airlines BAe Jetstream 32 that crashed on 19 October last year on final approach into Kirksville, Missouri, continued a steady descent when it was less than 300ft (100m) off the ground.
The information is revealed in newly released documents from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
According to the NTSB, the Corporate Airlines twin-turboprop continued a steady descent when it should have levelled off, going below 300ft (92m) above ground level on a localiser/DME approach to runway 36.
The aircraft, an American Connection scheduled flight, hit the ground 4nm (8km) from the runway, killing both pilots and 11 of the 13 passengers.
The NTSB has not yet suggested a probable cause for the accident but notes there is no evidence of mechanical failure or maintenance-related problems. With both pilots having been on their sixth sector of a 15h duty day, fatigue is one of several issues being examined by safety investigators.
