Indonesia's Angkasa Pura II (AP II) is set to construct a fourth passenger terminal at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International airport, with the aim of raising overall passenger handling capacity to 110 million passengers annually.
The new terminal will have a handling capacity of up to 45 million passengers annually, far larger than any of the existing terminals, and will be built on 130ha (321 acres) of land now occupied by a golf course, offices, a cargo terminal.
"In line with the construction of Terminal 4, the cargo area will be moved elsewhere and expanded into a cargo village, and this will help to accelerate Indonesia's economic growth, says AP II's acting senior vice-president of corporate secretary and legal, Achmad Rifai.
While AP II does not share any other details of the new terminal, which is pending a final design selection, Indonesia's president Joko Widodo has called on the company to begin construction of the terminal in 2021 and complete it by 2024.
With the completion of Terminal 4, along with renovation works of Terminals 1 and 2 that raises their total handling capacity to 40 million, and coupled with Terminal 3's handling capacity of 25 million, the company expects Soekarno-Hatta airport to be able to accommodate up to 110 million passengers annually.
