Japan Airlines (JAL) has named company veteran Toshiyuki Shinmachi as chief executive-designate to take over from long-serving incumbent Isao Kaneko. Shinmachi, 62, is currently the president of JAL Group holding company JAL Corporation and will take over as chief executive from Kaneko in June. The announcement comes as the airline steps up cost-cutting efforts under a new business plan aimed at making it consistently profitable after years of huge swings between profits and losses.
