Japan Airlines (JAL) has selected the General Electric GEnx over the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 to power its new fleet of 17 long-haul Boeing 787-8s and 13 short-haul 787-3s. Rival All Nippon Airways (ANA) selected the Trent 1000 last year to power the 50 787s it has on order. Neither Japanese carrier currently operates any R-R-powered aircraft. JAL’s fleet is primarily Pratt & Whitney powered, except for GE-powered Boeing 747-400s and 777-300ERs.
