The Total Entertainment System (TES) from Rockwell Collins' (Stand A1011) has been chosen by Japan Airlines (JAL) for its fleet of 24 Boeing 747-400s.

The TES equipment is being installed in every seat and provides a personal screen and access to several channels of video programmes.

JAL has ordered the system to include Audio/Video On Demand (AVOD), which streams the audio and video directly to the individual seats, allowing passengers complete control of the video programming.

Design

The system is designed to allow for increased functionality through software, rather than hardware, adaptations.

Japan Airlines is the ninth major carrier to select TES equipment for its widebody aircraft. Other carriers include Air France, British Airways, Delta and American.
