Japan Airlines (JAL) will ground its 787s after an All Nippon Airways (ANA) 787 made an emergency landing at Takamatsu airport in Japan.
A spokesperson for the airline confirmed that the 787s would not be used to operate any services on 16 January, but could not say how long the aircraft would be grounded for.
The Flightglobal Pro database shows that JAL operates seven 787-8s, and has orders for 18 additional aircraft and 20 787-9s.
The action follows ANA's decision to ground its 17 787s for maintenance checks soon after one of its 787-8s, with registration JA804A, was forced to make an emergency landing at Takamatsu after pilots observed an error message related to a battery malfunction. All 129 passengers and eight crew on board were evacuated via inflatable slides.
ANA is scheduled to hold a press conference in the afternoon of 16 January, where it is expected to reveal more details about the incident and the grounding of its 787s.
