The Japan Air Self-Defence Force (JASDF) has ordered a SAT Samir infra-red missile-warning system for operational evaluation in 1998/9. The French system will be used by the JASDF to draw up a new requirement for a passive missile-warning receiver. It is needed to supplement the existing locally produced J/APQ-1 radar warning system, fitted to Japan's McDonnell Douglas F-15J fighters.
