A new US Air Force stealthy cruise missile is making progress in a key series of operational trials, but still faces a termination threat in Congress.

The Lockheed Martin AGM-158A Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) completed two test flights on 2 August. Both missiles launched by Lockheed F-16s recorded “nominal” flights and impacts on the targets. Air force evaluators, however, are still analysing the accuracy of both missiles hits, the USAF adds.

The test results follow two previous successful test flights on 20 July from an F-16 and 25 July from a Rockwell B-1.

Two previous test failures prompted the US House of Representatives to propose termination of the programme.
