A California aviation services company is to offer fractional ownership of the Spectrum 33 and 40 light jets.

Carlsbad-based Jet Source has ordered an initial four Spectrum 33s to launch the regional programme, which will serve southern California, with deliveries planned to begin following certification in 2009.

Jet Source will offer 1/8th shares in the aircraft, providing 100h of annual use, through conventional fractional ownership and an owner-pilot "flying club".

While the company will provide two professional pilots under the fractional programme, the club scheme will allow share owners to fly the Spectrum with a mentor pilot, says president and chief operating officer Frank Milian.

Jet Source will use aircraft within both schemes for charter services, sharing the revenue with owners, and will offer access to the Spectrum fleet via a pre-paid card programme, says Milian.

Available in 25h increments, the card will allow buyers to make up to six trips a year with an option to use the hours towards larger, longer-range aircraft in the company's charter fleet.

The regional programme is build trips of around 1h and up to 925km (500nm), says Milian, who believes the all-composite Spectrum 33 and 40 will offer the lowest costs of any light jets.

Spectrum recently relocated its headquarters to a Carlsbad hangar owned by Jet Source.
