Low-cost airline JetBlue yesterday signed an agreement with International Aero Engines (IAE) to firm up V2500 engine options for its recently announced order for 30 additional Airbus A320s.

New York-based JetBlue already operates a fleet of 62 V2500-powered A320s and has specified IAE engines for the additional 121 A320s on order. Having now placed firm orders for V2500 engines for a total of 173 aircraft, including options and ten A320s on lease, JetBlue could increase its fleet to as many as 233 V2500-powered A320s by 2012.

The new agreement sees JetBlue operating its largest V2500 fleet for six years, with an expected annual delivery rate of 17 new A320s. Last year JetBlue placed the largest single V2500 order in IAE's history.

"Since the beginning of our success story just five years ago, IAE has been a major JetBlue business partner," says JetBlue's Tom Anderson. "Powering our modern A320s, the clean, quiet and low-cost V2500 engine plays an important role in providing the JetBlue experience for millions of passengers each year."
