Nick Boylen's letter (Flight International, 5-11 February) completely misses my point. I not condone the actions of the journalists who smuggled weapons onboard a British Airways flight.

He is foolish to expect the media to ignore failings in security - they will attempt to capitalise on it and sell more newspapers. This needs to be guarded against.

He states "Aviation security is a complex issue" best left to the experts. If so why do bombs, weapons and drunk passengers end up on aircraft?

I have no illusions, aviation security is complex but flying must be seen as safe. If people are scared they will not fly.
