Northrop Grumman has received $132 million in US Air Force contracts to upgrade computers used on the E-8 Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS). The US company will integrate new, more powerful central computers and workstations in the third developmental aircraft. The upgrade will replace five central processors in the current aircraft with two advanced processors. The work is expected to be completed in October 1999. Upgrades of computers on other JSTARS aircraft will be covered by future contracts.
