Juneyao Airlines will begin daily flights between Shanghai Pudong and Tokyo Narita from 27 October, complementing its existing service to Tokyo Haneda.
The carrier will operate the flights with Airbus A321s, before replacing these with the larger Boeing 787-9s from 15 December.
This is Juneyao’s first operation into Tokyo Narita. It currently operates a thrice-weekly service between its Shanghai Pudong hub and Tokyo Haneda. These are codeshared with ANA and flown with A321s.
For Shanghai Pudong-Tokyo Narita, Juneyao enters an already-crowded market, with six other carriers competing on the route. These are All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Air China, as well as low-cost carrier Jetstar Japan, according to Cirium’s schedules data.
