It is surprising that Lockheed Martin seems to be more supportive of a production line in Italy (Flight International, 25 February-3 March) rather than in the UK (Flight International, 18-24 February). If there has to be a second source, it ought to be BAE Systems, as the UK is the only level one partner.

There are even grounds for BAE Systems taking extra airframe subassemblies work besides the aft fuselage and tail unit for the 150 aircraft destined for the UK Royal Air Force and the Fleet Air Arm, Indeed, the strong backing for the USA by the UK on its war on terrorism deserves some rewards.
