Helicopter manufacturer Kaman suffered a blow on the eve of Farnborough with news that one of its K-MAX external lift helicopters had crashed in Germany, with one unconfirmed fatality.

The accident, which happened 20km south of the town of Kempten, was reported by Kaman's Swiss customer Helog. The K-MAX had previously enjoyed an excellent safety record.

Kaman has dispatched a team to Switzerland to assist Helog and the aviation authorities with the initial phase of the investigation into the cause of the crash.
