Korean Air (KAL) has confirmed it is ordering up to 20 Boeing 787-8s for use on services to Europe and the USA (Flight International, 29 March–4 April). Its deal will comprise 10 firm orders and 10 options. The firmly ordered aircraft will be delivered between 2009 and 2011 and the options will cover deliveries until 2013. An engine selection is expected to be announced at the Paris air show in June, when KAL is also expected to reveal a powerplant selection for the four-engined Airbus A380s it has on order. It placed orders for five A380-800s and took three options in 2003, for delivery between late 2007 and 2009. Pratt & Whitney engines currently power all the widebody aircraft in the airline's fleet.
