American custom-carpet designer and manufacturer Kalogridis International (E900a) has developed a new luminescent yarn carpet which glows in the dark. It is also working on other similar products such as lighting in carpets, which will be launched early next year.
The Dallas-based company, whose clients include Airbus, Boeing and Dassault, has had an exceptional year, establishing a strong reputation in the corporate aircraft industry as one of the most innovative manufacturers of silk and wool carpets.
President Georges Kalogridis says that when he first started in the aircraft industry, all carpets were monochromatic. Carpets manufactured at Kalogridis are engineered to have built in fire-retardency and anti-static capability, using synthetic fibre blended in.
“We have a very good rating on our anti-static. The carpeting is engineered such that as people walk on the carpet, the electricity is pulled down into the floorboards.”
Kalogridis International also specialises in dividers and side-panels, for which it uses various lightweight materials including suede, silk and wood.
Georges Kalogridis says that the company’s success lies in approaching business from an artistic standpoint.
