Kaman Aerospace is finalising the selection of suppliers for the upgraded avionics in the SH-2G(A) Super Seasprite shipborne helicopter for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The last major element, the digital automatic flight-control system, will be chosen soon, says vice-president of engineering Michael Bowes.

Australia, meanwhile, has completed specification of the mission system for the 11 aircraft on order. This includes an electronic-warfare suite integrated by Elisra, and featuring the Israeli company's LWS-20 laser-warning receiver, Northrop Grumman AAR-54 missile-warning receiver and Tracor ALE-47 chaff/flare dispenser.

The RAN has selected a Telephonics APS-143 pulse-compression radar with target-classification capability using inverse synthetic-aperture radar (SAR). Australia has the option of adding spot-SAR targeting capability. A Litton global-positioning/inertial-navigation system will also be fitted.

Litton is supplying the SH-2G(A)'s integrated tactical avionics, including the two-crew "glass cockpit", which has four liquid-crystal displays.
