Kaman Aerospace is in bullish mood about the performance of its Raymond Engineering division - after an upturn in demand for products it supplies to the defence systems industry.
Kaman provides fusing devices for missiles, memory systems for severe environment applications and microwave cabling for military aircraft and space vehicles.
Its plant has won contracts totalling more than $17 million in the past 12 months, including a follow-on contract with Boeing to produce fuses for the SLAM-ER (Stand-off Land Attack Missile - Extended Range), currently on order for the US Navy.
The USN also awarded Kaman the second phase of a three-part contract to supply Mk-54 fuses for the Raytheon Standard anti-aircraft missile. And the Connecticut-based company secured additional contracts with Norwegian manufacturer Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace, which makes the Penguin anti-ship missile.Kaman's Harry Hutchins explains: "The components we make are integral to many other weapons systems and much of the growth we are now seeing relates to the need to replenish weapons expended in international conflicts, most recently in Kosovo."
