Kazakhstan has exercised a first option to increase the strength of its Airbus Military C295 medium transport inventory, with the nation’s air force to receive another two of the type by 2015.
Announced by the European company on 24 October, the development follows the introduction of two C295s by the Kazakhstan air force earlier this year.

“This order is implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] signed in 2012 between the Ministry of Defence of Kazakhstan and Airbus Military for the procurement of eight C295s,” the airframer says. Astana's next two examples are due for delivery during 2014 and 2015 respectively, it adds, with the deal also covering the provision of in-service support.
“With regards to the remaining four aircraft in the MoU, a delivery schedule will be defined over the coming years,” says Airbus Military.
The C295 represents Kazakhstan’s first modern military air transport capability. Its air force also operates a combined seven Antonov An-12, An-24/26 and An-72 airlifters, according toFlightglobal’s MiliCAS database.
