KAWASAKI HEAVY Industries (KHI) is negotiating with Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries (IHI) and General Electric for a in the production share of the planned CF34-8C turbine engine.

According to KHI, discussions centre mainly on production of the auxiliary gearbox and do not include Kawasaki taking a stake in the engine's development.

IHI has a 30% share in the CF34-8C and is being encouraged by Japan's Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) to broaden local participation in the programme. MITI is providing finance and wants to promote it as a national programme.

Work-share discussions, are also being held, with six Japanese material and component suppliers. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, however, is understood to have declined a stake in the GE/IHI programme, preferring to concentrate on international co-operation with Pratt & Whitney and Allison Engines.
