Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) is to become an associate member of the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine programme, following a joint sourcing effort conducted by R-R and Trent 900 risk-share partner Marubeni. KHI is to supply intermediate pressure compressor casings for the engine, which is designed to power the Airbus A380. Fellow Japanese company Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries and South Korea's Samsung Techwin are also associate members of the Trent 900 effort. Five other companies risk-share on the engine programme: FiatAvio, Goodrich, Hamilton Sundstrand, Honeywell and Volvo Aero.
