Passenger traffic at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) rose by 7.8% to 29.7 million in 2009, with Malaysia's main air gateway buoyed by the strong growth it posted towards the end of the year.
International passenger numbers increased by 8.6% to 19.7 million while domestic passenger movements increased by 6.3% to 10 million, says operator Malaysia Airports. Overall passenger numbers at the other airports that it operates increased by 8.2% to 51.3 million, it adds.
Aircraft movements at KLIA increased by 7.4% to 225,251 while aircraft movements at its other airports increased by 8.4% to 310,542.
Cargo movements at KLIA fell by 10% to 584,000 tonnes, while freight traffic at the other airports fell by 13.8% to 804,000 tonnes.
In December, passenger traffic at KLIA increased by 18.6% to 3.1 million and went up by 17.7% to 5.4 million at the other Malaysian airports. Aircraft movements increased by 7.7% to 20,502 at KLIA and 9.9% to 28,114 at the other airports.
December cargo movements increased by 21.4% to 54,000 tonnes at KLIA, and by 15.4% to 75,000 tonnes at the other airports.
