Fleet renewal KLM is in discussions to order up to 34 Airbus A330s or Boeing 777s to replace the bulk of its widebody fleet. The prime requirement is to replace its 12 Boeing 747 Classics, but KLM also has a longer-term need to renew its medium-haul fleet of 10 Boeing MD-11s and 12 767-300ERs. Discussions are under way with the airframe and engine suppliers, and it is likely that leasing companies International Lease Finance (ILFC) and GE Capital Aviation Services will be involved in the negotiations. KLM's entire 767 fleet is leased from ILFC. Sources suggest that the airline will be keen include a trade-in of older aircraft as part of the deal.
