The supervisory board of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines intends to appoint Peter Hartman, now executive vice-president for engineering and maintenance, as a managing director. He has been with KLM since 1973. From 6 August, the board of managing directors will be Leo van Wijk, the new president and chief executive; Rob Abrahamsen, Cees van Woudenberg and Hartman. The division of board tasks will be decided later. The appointment follows the decision of Pieter Bouw, president and chief executive to resign on 5 August, the date of the annual general meeting, and the airline's supervisory board's intention to appoint managing director and chief operating officer van Wijk, to succeed him. Bouw, who joined KLM in 1967, became president in 1991. Van Wijk has been with the airline since 1971, and was appointed to the board of managing directors in 1991.
