Kuwait yesterday gave the booming Arabian Gulf aviation market a further boost, with an order for six Airbus A320s and the reaffirmation of a commitment to buy 12 Airbus A350s.
Jazeera Airways, the country’s new, privately owned airline, yesterday signed a contract with Airbus for six more A320s, taking its total orders for the model to 10.
Also yesterday, Kuwait-based international aircraft leasing company ALAFCO signed a contract for 12 Airbus A350s, with options on six more.
Jazeera began operations last month with its first two aircraft. It plans to use the new aircraft to increase services on existing routes within the Middle East, as well as to open routes to new destinations.
Each of Jazeera’s A320s will seat 165 passengers in a single class layout and be powered by CFM56-5 engines.
“We have shown that, with the Airbus A320, we can deliver a quality product at an affordable price, and we now look forward to spread that success more widely,” says Marwan Boodai, Jazeera Airways chairman and chief executive.
Jazeera Airways also signed a deal with Lufthansa Technik at the show yesterday. The Kuwaitis selected the German MRO provider to support its growing fleet of Airbus A320s.
Over the next 10 years it will offer its Total Technical Support services to a minimum of four aircraft.
