L-3 Communications has completed its purchase of Chicago-based Electrodynamics from Carpenter Technology. Carpenter acquired the manufacturer of aircraft data recorders and electronic safe arm and fire devices for missiles as part of its deal for Talley Industries. L-3 is also acquiring Microdyne for $90 million. Microdyne makes aerospace telemetry receivers and high-frequency radios used in aerospace and satellite communications. L-3 makes secure communications gear and avionics for the military.
